A tour to the east of Gotland

On Thursday, we went on a tour of eastern Gotland with my sister and her husband. We headed for lunch at the smokehouse in Katthammarsvik. I ordered a delicious warm-smoked salmon with caviar sauce. When we took a walk out on this quay, it was a bit odd that the wind blew harder in the beginning than when we were all the way out on it.

Vi continued to Grogarns huvud/”Grogarn’s Head”. It’s the high cliff mountain between Katthammarsvik and Herrvik.

Then we went to Herrvik, Sysne udd, and stopped at Sjaustre. Dorty and I walked around with our cameras.

There were some faded small pasque flowers swaying in the wind.

Can’t I remember the correct word for these? They use them with the fishnets and they are bright and red, as you can see…

Next stop was Ljugarn and the beach café. We continued to Folhammar. This HDR photo is a test using my new Aperture app, Hydra. It shows the beach forest right before Folhammar, north of Ljugarn.

I visited Folhammar many times when I was a kid. I climbed the rauks, and we went there in the evening, ran through the labyrinths, and grilled hot dogs. It was very cosy. Now, when I walk around the rauks, I can feel that cosiness again. When I came home and looked at this picture, I saw the climbing boy. It could have been me climbing like that when I was a kid.

Staying late into the evening among the rauks was especially exciting when I was a kid. I think I have to plan more evening picnics at the Rauks!

We turned back home and stopped in Slite. We bought some Thai food and brought it to a table in Badhusparken/the Bathhouse park. It was very windy! We had to be very creative to keep the food, the small boxes, and everything on the table. But it was really nice!

Asa In the Middle of the World is in English and is also about life on this island, but the content has changed to be more about Apple. I’m very interested in Apple and since 1989 I’m a Happy Apple User.
