Squirrel collecting dry grass

This cute little squirrel collected dry grass to his or hers nest in our garden today. I like squirrels! Two years ago I made another video with two squirrels that were playing with each other in our garden.

We need warm bus shelters on Gotland!

I just found this people-warming bus shelter at AdFreak.com.

”Colle+McVoy in Minneapolis introduced Caribou Coffee’s new hot breakfast sandwiches by making bus shelters looks like ovens—with actual heat coming from the coils.”

Imaging if all bus shelters on Gotland were warm! Especially this winter, the worst winter for 130 years (some say 150 years?). The part with standing and waiting for the bus is probably one of the strongest causes to chose the car in stead of the bus. Warm bus shelters. Cozy.

Ice Age 4 – with Continental drift!

Oh, this is going to be fun! It is because of the continental drift that Gotland moved from the equator to what today is the Baltic Sea. And that is also why Gotland is built of fossilated plants and animals from the tropics. Ain’t that cool?

But, it seems like we will have to wait until 2012 before the film is ready. Sigh!

Silver the Cat and my iPad

It started with a video showing a cat that was playing with Games för Cats on an iPad. I thought it would be interesting to test that game on our cats – would they react as the cat in the video? I bought the app. My cat Silver was interested from the start. The cat is supposed to try to catch the mice that is running on the screen. Every time the cat lays it’s paw on the screen, the mouse will squeak and the cat gets 100 points. At first Silver was a bit confused, but the next day he scored with 4800 points. After that he seemed to be filled with chasing the mouse.

But, now he was interested in my iPad! Now and then he came to sit by my side while I was using my iPad and he watched the iPad very focused. He looked upon me like he was saying ”come on, do something fun with yout iPad!” When the Games for Cats wasn’t funny any longer I started Smule piano which is also like a game with green dots floating on the screen and when you touch the dots you will hear a tone. It has some similarities with the cat-game and got Silvers attention. He even tried to touch a couple of the dots, but he was more into watching me playing the game.

Then he lost his interest for the piano-game. But he still looked like he wanted me to do more fun with my iPad. So, what could I do? I started a watercolor app and painted a mouse.

And that brought back Silver’s attention! How strange. He sniffed on the mouse, touched it with his paw. Watching it. I started to paint a little green bird, but then I lost his attention and he walked away…

Today he was back looking at my iPad. I went through the schedule with the cat-game and the piano-game, but he wanted more. I started to paint a pheasant… and now he got alert again!

When I took some photos with my iPhone he lifted his paw and touched the pheasant and even managed to enlarge the picture. He watched it a bit more and then he was satisfied. Enough for today!

I find it very interesting that he takes notice of my iPad. My cat Doris is not even interested by the cat-game.

Christmas in the house!

Now we have finished all the Christmas decorations. This is one of our windows in the kitchen with a Gotlandic candelabra and a couple dressed in Smalandic clothes. Outside is the tree where we put seeds for the birds so that they give us daily entertainment.

This is the other window in the kitchen. Look at all the snow outside!

This is a little arrengement with angels. I always forget to buy the small hyacinth, but Alice has started to remember things like that. Very good!

My cat Silver appreciates that the house is decorated, but not the camera AGAIN? Please…
